WAPETIA is recognised by
the Australian and Western Australian Governments as
a representative body for educational institutions.
All WAPETIA members must be registered by the Department
of Education and meet the quality standards prescribed
for an education provider.
In addition to these standards,
all members must hold accreditation for their courses
from the appropriate authority. For example, English
language courses must be accredited under the National
ELICOS Accreditation Scheme (NEAS).

Wapetia operates a Tuition Assurance Scheme (TAS) in
accordance with Australian Government legislation. This
protects student fees from improper use by a school
or college and guarantees that students receive the
education for which they have paid.

Australian Federal and State legislation
provides firm protection for overseas students through
the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act
of 2000, and the Education Service Providers Registration
ACT (ESPRA) of 1991. These acts require institutions to
be registered as fit to offer education services and to
offer only courses accredited by a government sanctioned
agency.
There are strict regulations covering
the fair treatment of students and the security of fees
paid in advance. Each institution safeguards student
fees in an account which is audited and monitored by
the state and federal government.
